The lines between news and entertainment are even more blurry these days. “D.L Hughley Breaks the News” debuted on CNN Saturday night. Yes, I did say CNN. I watched the entire thing, and all I could think of was: “This should really be on Comedy Central.” Is CNN really the place for comedians to be talking about pimps, b!@#$%s, and thongs? Should CNN really be using its experts and reporters to appear on a less-than-successful knock-off of Comedy Central’s fake newscast the Daily Show. Doesn’t that affect the journalist’s credibility and CNN‘S for that matter? Meantime, news is breaking about anchor and reporter Anne Presley dying of her injuries after being attacked, and all the National news stations are in non-news programming, including CNN. Oh wait, CNN just broke in with a 15 second update on it! Great thanks! I am a journalist, and I would have to say yes, we put some things in the show that are just fun to know--water cooler stories, but this--to me as a journalist--takes us a few steps back. Agree/disagree? Let me know.

I watched the D.L. Hughley CNN show the other night. It has potential but it looks like they've hired people with little to no experience with regard to their production team and editing. It didn't seem live so why didn't they do it in takes? The pimp skit was horrible and could have been done much better (it was horribly acted - that guy couldn't read from the teleprompter either- and horribly written - I get the analogy and there were SO many opportunities to capitalize on the humor in it but they didn't). D.L. was much better when he wasn't reading from the teleprompter. If he doesn't get better with the teleprompter, changing between cameras (and being patient as he switches), and NOT laughing at every joke he tells, the show won't last very long. His production also needs to be better. I haven't seen a show on a major cable station with production that bad in a good while. Overall, if done correctly, I don't think it would be out of line to have on CNN. MSNBC has (or used to have) shows like "Lock-Up" on around the same time and that show has swear words and violence in it.
I agree with the blogger...take the comedy to Comedy Central or put in on late late night (i.e. Red Eye on FOX News)
Good day! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell you
